Valda David Tanner, Jr.

Mr. Valda David Tanner, Jr., age 89, of E. McCarty Street in Sandersville, died Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the Washington County Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 15th at 11:00am at the First Christian Church of Sandersville with burial in Brownwood Cemetery. Rev. Dale Andrews and Mr. Wyman Hodges will officiate. Pallbearers will be David Tanner, Brad May, Wade Stroud, Wes Tanner, Clay Tanner and Gary Tanner.

Mr. Tanner was born in Washington County the son of the late Valda D. Tanner Sr. and the late Hilda Jackson Tanner. He was retired as post master for the Sandersville Post office after serving 35 years with the Postal Service. After retirement, Mr. Tanner served as the purchasing agent for the City of Sandersville. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Sandersville where he was a former Elder and Deacon of the church as well as a former choir member. Mr. Tanner was a long time member of the Sandersville Lions Club where he served as club treasurer for 37 years. Mr. Tanner was an Army Veteran of WWII and is predeceased by his wife Annie Mary Dudley Tanner.

Survivors are his sons, Valda D. Tanner III (Dianne) of Sandersville, Tony Tanner (Lynne) of Monticello, and Jody D. Tanner (Debbie) of Athens, grandchildren, David Tanner, Brad May (Jenny), Wade Stroud (Brooke), Wes Tanner (Mandi), Clay Tanner, Tori Tanner and Ivey Tanner, great grandchildren, Sydney Stroud and Ridge Stroud and his brother Twiggs J. Tanner (Martha) of Sandersville.

The family will be at the Tanner residence 723 E. McCarty St. Sandersville, and will receive friends Thursday from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
