Mr. Varnie Hubert Ellington, age 86, of 705 Betty Street in Sandersville died February 6, 2010 in an Augusta Hospital following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday February 9 in the Sisters Baptist Church in Sandersville. The Rev. Bert Parker and Dr. Lloyd Stembridge, Jr. will officiate with burial at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in the Walnut Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Wilkinson County. Pallbearers will be Brad May, Caleb Ellington, P.K. Stembridge, David Tanner, Matthew Stembridge and Josh Capps.

Mr. Ellington was a native of Wilkinson County, Georgia, the son of the late David Melton Ellington and the late Alice Belflower Ellington. He was a retired mine foreman with Georgia Kaolin Company. Mr. Ellington was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Sisters Baptist Church, the Silent Seekers Sunday School Class and the Cool Springs Masonic Lodge #185.

Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Joyce Allen Ellington of Sandersville, children, Dianne (Valda) Tanner of Sandersville, Dee Lee (Mary) Ellington of Hanson, KY., Mark (Shirley) Ellington of Sandersville and Marsha (Lloyd) Stembridge of Fitzgerald, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The family suggests that donations be made to the Sisters Baptist Church, 1807 East McCarty Street, Sandersville, Georgia 31082. The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home, 1119 Riddleville Road in Sandersville from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Monday.
