Velma Poss Dalton, 83, of Sandersville, Georgia, peacefully entered her heavenly home on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Wesley Woods Senior Living in Newnan.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville. Funeral services celebrating the life of Velma Dalton will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Andy Yates officiating. Interment will follow at Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville.
Velma was born on July 25, 1943, in Washington, Georgia, to the late Earl Poss and Frances Callaway. She graduated from Alexander Stephens High School in 1961 and later married the love of her life, Barney Dalton, in 1963. Together they shared a life rooted in faith, love, and devotion to their family. A faithful member of Sisters Baptist Church, Velma lived her life with quiet grace and a servant's heart. She loved her church family and found joy in worship, fellowship, and serving others whenever she could.
Above all else, Velma treasured her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a delighted great-grandmother. She had a special gift for making a house feel like home. Whether she was preparing a meal from scratch, baking something delicious for those she loved, or welcoming family around her table, she expressed her love through simple acts of kindness and generosity. When she wasn't caring for those she loved, Velma found peace in God's creation. She enjoyed sitting quietly on the porch watching the birds, finding beauty in their songs and the changing seasons. Her gentle spirit, compassionate heart, and appreciation for life's simple blessings were evident to everyone who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Barney Dalton; her brother, Thomas “Coryer” Poss
She is survived by her loving sons, Derrick Dalton (Annette) and Daryl Dalton (Courtney); her cherished grandchildren, Caroline Curles (Corey), Dylan Dalton (Destony), Walker Dalton, Emerson Grace Dalton, and Mattie Dalton; her great-granddaughter, Adaline Curles; and sister-in-love Rosalyn Lord and many extended family members, dear friends, and her church family, all of whom will miss her deeply.
While her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in knowing she is reunited with those who have gone before her and resting in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Her legacy of faith, unconditional love, gracious hospitality, and unwavering devotion to her family will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
