Mrs. Velma Avery May, age 93, of Warthen, died Saturday, October 15, 2016, in the Extended Care Facility in Sandersville. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 18th at Warthen United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Reverend Roger Holley and Reverend Don Black will officiate.
Mrs. May was born in Baldwin County, the daughter of the late Sam Avery and the late Mattie Lingold Avery. She was a homemaker and a former seamstress for Royal Manufacturing Company. She was an active member of the Warthen United Methodist Church for over 50 years and is predeceased by her husband Allen Lamar May Sr.
Survivors include: three sons, Allen May Jr. and his wife Selwyn of Sandersville, Sammy May and his wife Susie of Tennille and Ronnie May and his wife Kathy of Warthen; grandchildren, Miranda May, Timothy May and his wife Stephanie, Erica Ingram and her husband Joel, Jennie May, Ed May and Joseph May; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Emily Buckner and Alice Avery both of Milledgeville.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service Tuesday at the Church.
