Verlon Eugene Josey

Mr. Verlon E. Josey, age 72, of Riddleville Rd., Sandersville, died Monday, August 15, 2011 at his residence following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 18th at 2:00pm at the Davisboro Baptist Church with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville. Rev. Larry Glover will officiate. Pallbearers will be Eugene Prosser, Gerald Meadows, Chris Josey, Jerry Hicks, Lynn Hicks, Glenn Hicks, Eddie Josey, Randy Josey, and Stevie McIlvried. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of the Davisboro Baptist Church.

Mr. Josey was a native of Washington County the son of the late Lewis Eugene Josey and the late Lorena Smith Josey. He worked 35 years in the Kaolin industry beginning with Yara Kaolin. He also worked for Georgia Kaolin, ECC International and retired from Imerys Pigments as a quality control lab supervisor. Mr. Josey was a member of the Davisboro Baptist Church where he served as a church deacon. Mr. Josey’s daughter Melvie Loraine Josey, a sister Winfred J. McIlvried and his brothers Edwin “Buck” Josey and Hugh Josey all predecease him.

Survivors are his wife, Rachel Tanner Josey, children, Teresa Melvina Josey Titsworth (Bob) of N. Augusta SC., and Lewis Verlon Josey (Jennifer Ann) of Sandersville, grandchildren, Brandon Josey, Hunter Goodson, Evan Josey, Conner May and Rachel Ann Josey, one great granddaughter Rebecca Faith Josey, sisters, Sarah J. Hicks of Clearwater SC., and Rachel J. Meadows of Augusta and sister-in-laws Gloria Josey of Sandersville and Pansey Josey of Augusta.

The family will be at the Josey residence 2764 Riddleville Rd. in Sandersville and will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home.
