Mr. Vernon Franklin McNeely, age 80, of Riddleville, died Saturday, December 13, 2014, following an extended illness. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 16th at 11:00 a.m. at the Riddleville Baptist Church with burial in the Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. Reverends Daniel Porter and Bill Snipes will officiate. Pallbearers will be Ben Hitchcock, Werner Muenger, Michael McNeely, Shannon Hudson, Chad Wheeler, William Josey III, and Rob McKinney.
Mr. McNeely was born in Washington County the son of the late Sam Tillman McNeely and the late Martha Frances Johnson McNeely. He started his working career in law enforcement as a policeman for the City of Macon while also serving in the Georgia National Guard. After returning home to Washington County, Mr. McNeely began working in the Kaolin Industry from which he retired as the shop foreman for ECCI. His wife, Nell Burgamy McNeely, predeceases him.
Survivors are; his children, Glenn McNeely and his wife Robin of Sandersville, David McNeely and his wife Kim of Milledgeville, and Karen M. Durden of Riddleville, grandchildren, Cory McNeely, Paige McNeely, Andrew McNeely and Ivey Durden and siblings, Frances M. Josey and her husband William of Riddleville, Verlon McNeely and his wife Cecelia of Kite, Brenda M. Hadden and her husband Fay of Louisville, and Janice M. Thompson and her husband Claude of Riddleville.
The family will be at the residence of Glenn and Robin McNeely at 3978 Sunhill–Grange Road and they will receive friends Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
