Virgil Albert Brown, Sr.

Mr. Virgil Albert Brown, Sr., age 81, of 847 Mt. Zion Road in Warthen died Sunday, February 19, 2012 in the Doctors Hospital in Augusta. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday February 22nd, in the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Warthen. Rev. Tim Powell and Dwayne McDonald will officiate with burial in the Bethlehem Baptist church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Mr. Brown was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Linton J. Brown and the late Bertha Locklin Brown. He was the husband of the late Janice Armstrong Brown. Mr. Brown was a retired timber harvester and farmer. He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church and also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Woodmen of the World. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the construction battalion.

Survivors are his children, Gail Gibson and her husband Dennis of Barnwell, SC, Virgil Albert Brown,Jr. of Warthen, Jan Douglas and her husband Ellis of Harrison, Robin Archer and her husband Mitch of Sandersville, Elaine Smith and her husband Scott of Warthen and Tommy Brown and his wife Angela of Warthen, fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday.
