Virgil Eugene Cowart

Mr. Virgil Eugene Cowart, age 86, of Lewis’ Lake, died Sunday, February 08, 2015 at the Washington County Extended Care Facility following an extended illness. A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 11TH, at 2:00 p.m. at the Josey Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Vina Mae Josey officiating.

Mr. Cowart was born Emanuel County the son of the late Robert Allen Cowart and the late Annie Mae Turner Cowart. Virgil spent most of his life living and working at a place he called “heaven on earth” Lewis’ Lake. There he both farmed and cooked and when timed allowed, he fished. Virgil was a US Army Veteran.

Survivors are his son, Olin Cowart and his wife Mary of Martinez; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his niece and caregiver Peggy Cowart of Bartow; sisters-in-law Barbara Cowart of Bartow and Josephine Cowart of Wadley; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 until noon at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
