Vivian Cato Herring

February 19, 1926 — April 19, 2020

Mrs. Vivian Cato Herring, age 94, of Sandersville, died Sunday, April 19, 2020 at the Washington County Extended Care Facility in Sandersville. A memorial service for Mrs. Herring will be held at a later date and her cremains will be buried in the Andersonville Veterans Cemetery next to those of her late husband.


Mrs. Herring was born in Manchester, Georgia, the daughter of the late Albert C. Cato Sr. and the late Rita Mae Venable Cato. She was a graduate of Auburn University and Mercer University School of Pharmacy. She was a longtime resident of Marietta and Atlanta where she retired as a Registered Pharmacist for Riches after 40 years of service. In retirement, she along with her husband Larry, relocated to Havana Florida. Mrs. Herring was active in the Quincy Episcopal Church where she served her church in numerous roles. She was also a volunteer at the Tallassee Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and served as Auxiliary President. She and her husband Larry enjoyed working with the Birdsong Nature Center in Thomasville. Mrs. Herring is predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Butler Herring.


Survivors include her sister, Rebecca C. Tantillo of North Carolina; sisters-in-law, Loretta Cato of Warthen and Marjorie Cato of Riverdale; stepchildren, Sandra H. Jones of Douglasville and Lynette Herring of New Mexico; and nieces and nephews.
