Wayne Pilcher Walker

August 16, 1945 — November 9, 2014

Mr. Wayne Pilcher Walker, age 69, of Sandersville died Sunday, November 9, 2014, following an extended illness. A sunset graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 12th, at 5:00 p.m. at the Washington County Memorial Gardens. Ministers Race and Linda Lariscy will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Anthony Cooper, Nathen Cooper, Steven Cox, Gregory Carr, Tony Mimbs and Ray Ennis.

Wayne was born in Hancock County the son of the late Frank Wayne Walker and the late Lois Smith Walker. He was a 42 year veteran of the Kaolin Industry beginning work with Anglo American Clays and retiring from Kamin Performance Minerals. Wayne had a lifelong love of music and enjoyed playing the bass guitar and the piano. He was known by many as their “lawnmower repair man” and he was an entertainer to all. Wayne was an active member of Holding Forth the Word of Life in Wrens, participating in the Isaiah 58 Ministry, which serves hot meals and provides clothing to the disadvantaged and elderly. He was the organization’s first volunteer manager and chief cook from its 2010 inception. All his volunteer colleagues along with those he served will miss his friendly smile and welcoming spirit.

Survivor are his wife, Linda H. Walker of Sandersville; children, Pam Walker (Stan Garner) of Sandersville and Waylon Walker and his wife Holly of Tennille; grandchildren, Harley Walker, Abigail Walker, Joshua Lindsey, Destyn McClure and Cheyenne Burgamy; step children, Mitch McGill and his wife Kasey and Joanna M. Johnson and her husband Henry all of Louisville; step grandchildren, Kade McGill, Mailyn McGill and Rachel Johnson; his brother, Anthony John Walker and his wife Von; his sister, Saralyn W. Carr and her husband Marvin; and nieces and nephews.

The family may be contacted at the Walker residence on Betty Street in Sandersville or 9896 Hwy. 88 West in Avera. They will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until the hour of the service in the Cemetery.
