Wayne Wells

Mr. John Wayne Wells, age 79 of Sparta, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at Baldwin Navient Hospital following a brief illness. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Sparta Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Culverton Baptist Church Cemetery. Reverend Jerry Bradley, Reverend Alan McCoy, Reverend Vic Lester, and Reverend Brian Hill will officiate. Pallbearers will be, Jeff Veazey, David Cawley, Timothy Wells, Cade Wells, Jason Brennan, and Mike Wells. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 16, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Wells was a life long resident of Hancock County. He was born September 14, 1943, the son of the late John Neal Wells and the late Geneva Yarbrough Wells. He was a logger by trade and a strong man of faith. Mr. Wells was an upstanding man in his community, a founding member of Sparta Deer Camp and an avid supporter of John Hancock Academy. He found much pleasure in being outdoors, and especially hunting deer and turkey. Mr. Wells was a dedicated family man, who always found time to support his children and grandchildren in whatever they were doing. He was a member of Sparta Baptist Church.

Me. Wells is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Wanda Rachels Wells; son, Travis Wayne Wells and his wife Angela of Milledgeville; daughter, Traci Wells Brennan and her husband Jason of Sparta; grandchildren, Timothy Wayne Wells, Cade Tyler Wells, Josie Grace Wells, O’Hara Baker Brennan, Haven O’Neal Brennan, and Hollis Rachel Brennan; sister, Peggy Veazey of Sparta; and many nieces and nephews.
