Mr. Willie Chester “W.C.” Daniel, age 89, of Sandersville, died Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Washington County Extended Care Facility. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 20 th at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Sandersville with burial in Brownwood Cemetery. Reverend Lee Lacey will officiate. Deacons of First Baptist Church of Sandersville will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Daniel was a born in Louisville, the son of the late Chester Arthur Daniel and the late Willie Kate Brookins Daniel. He grew up in Sandersville, graduated from Sandersville High School in 1946 and joined the U.S. Navy where he served his country in Korea and Japan during the Korean Conflict as radio operator. After returning to Sandersville, W.C. worked at Miller’s Food Store prior to starting a 43 year career with the US Postal Service working as a mail carrier, then Post Master of Warthen and Davisboro where he was instrumental in the construction of a new post office. After retirement from the Postal Service, Mr. Daniel worked for the City of Sandersville as the Assistant Building Inspector. He also served as Chairman of the City’s Planning and Zoning Board from 1979 to 2011. Mr. Daniel was a member of Grand Lodge of Georgia F. & A. M. Hamilton Lodge No. 58 and General Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Sandersville from which he joined as a young boy. Mr. Daniel is predeceased by siblings, Frances Elizabeth D. Dollar, Alton Daniel, Catherine Eugenia D. Shirley, Thomas Lamar Daniel, and Forace Marion Daniel.
Survivors are, his wife of 59 years, Marilyn Reba Davis Daniel of Sandersville; sons, Curtis Wayne Daniel and Nick Allen Daniel; grandchildren, Brant, Kelly, Matthew, Amanda, DJ, Neshelle and Kevin; great grandchildren, Wesley, Abbie Grace, Peyton, Brantley, Kendall, Brooklyn, Cody, Coulton, Meghan, Alaina and Alexis; brothers, Horace Melvin Daniel and his wife Ann Farrer and Charles Michael Daniels and his wife Connie Josey all of Sandersville; and sister-in-laws, Iola Josey Daniel and Yvonne Holcomb Daniel also of Sandersville.
The family will be at the Daniel residence on Morningside Dr. in Sandersville and they will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home.
