William Winston Askew

Mr. William Winston Askew, age 84, of Wilson Road, Davisboro, passed away, Tuesday, August 13, 2024.  A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, August 16th at 11:00 a.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Washington County Memorial Gardens.  Reverend Ronnie Duncan will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Donnie Smith, Randy Smith, Randy Jackson, Ashley Gee, Dustin Gee, Mike Beckworth, David Askew and Wayne Andrews.  Mr. Askew's family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Mr. Askew was born and reared in Davisboro, the son of the late William Delmer Askew and the late Vera Dixon Fowler.  He grew up and began working at an early age with his father on their family farm. He joined the National Guard and was deployed during the Cuban missile crisis.  Mr. Askew began his working career as a motor mechanic for Wilson Electric prior to working and for J.P. Stevens Co. in Milledgeville.  He began a long career with Lapp Insulator from its inception until his retirement in 2004 as maintenance manager.  In retirement, Mr. Askew worked for Howard Sheppard Trucking Company.  He was a member of his childhood church New Hope Methodist Church.  He loved farming, raising hogs and other animals and gardening.  He relished camping at the lake or the river. Mr. Askew's  favorite hobby was whittling walking sticks.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Juanita Burgamy Askew of Davisboro; his daughter, Donna A. Lord and her husband Johnny of Harrison; grandson, Joshua Allen Lord and his wife Emily of Roswell; great grandchildren, Emerson Jane Lord and Grant Allen Lord; siblings, Grady Askew of Tennille, Betty A. Elrod of Perry; and Billy Jo Lord of Athens; and step-siblings  Carolyn Gee,  Sandy Thompson and Warren Lindsey.
