William "Billy" Duggan

Dr. William F. "Billy" Duggan, age 69, of Wrens, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at his residence.  A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, March 18 th at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Warthen.   Reverends Larry Harmon, Brandon Key and Jim Duggan will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 17, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.

Billy was born in Sandersville and reared in Warthen, the son of the late Archie Cone Duggan and the late Mary Elizabeth Walker Duggan. He graduated from Washington County High School in 1972, where he loved and excelled in sports.  He was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and Seminary School at Baptist College of Florida.  Billy obtained his Doctor of Divinity from Andersonville Baptist Seminary.  He began his ministry as pastor to Shady Grove Baptist Church in Leesburg, Al., Evergreen Baptist Church in Blakley County GA., and Williams Memorial Baptist Church in Kentucky.  Billy returned to Georgia to the Augusta area where he transitioned his ministry to education working as a teacher and coach.  He was proud to be a part of the faculty at One Way Christian School, Briarwood Academy, Augusta Christian, Hillcrest Baptist School, and John Hancock School. He had a passion for coaching and mentoring kids. Billy finished his ministry as pastor of Mineral Springs Baptist Church in Washington County. He loved fishing, watching the Braves and was known as an avid Georgia Bulldawgs Fan.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Debra Godfrey Duggan of Wrens; children, Christal Duggan also of Wrens and Jon Duggan and his wife Janelle of Apex, NC.; siblings, B.L. Duggan of Augusta, Jerry Duggan and Brenda D. Wheatley and her husband Doug all of Evans; nieces and nephews; fur babies, Asa and Georgia; and grand fur babies Pepper Anne, Betty White and Kirby.
