Mr. William Newman Greenwood, age 81, of Kissimmee Florida, passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 30, 2023 at Advent Health Lake Wells Hospital following an extended illness. A graveside funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, May 5 th at 2:00 p.m. in Brownwood Cemetery, Sandersville Georgia. His family will greet friends also on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
Billy was born June 6, 1941, in the old Rawlings Hospital in Sandersville, son of the late Cecil Lewis Greenwood and the late Louise Turner Greenwood. He graduated in 1959 from the last graduating class of Sandersville High School. He was a member of United Methodist Church from birth until he left home after graduation. Billy worked for several railroad systems and had the opportunity to go to college prepaid by the railroad. He attended St. Louis University and graduated from the University of Georgia, Columbus Campus, in Finance. He last worked for FEC railroad in Florida as Vice President of Real Estate and Marketing for railroad property. He owned his own trucking company for a few years and did camera shows as a Nikon dealer. Billy was an avid golfer and real estate investor. He lived in Florida since the late 60's and has lived in Kissimmee, FL in Solivita Senior Community for over 20 years. He was a wonderful and sweet man to family and friends and a good servant of the Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Greenwood of 21 years; sister, Jenny Greenwood; sons, Patrick Greenwood and his wife Sandi and Michael Greenwood and his wife Susan; granddaughter, Lindsay Greenwood; niece, Cecelia Sheppard; nephews, Russell Sheppard and his wife Kathy and Trevor Sheppard and his wife Ramona; and their children: Anna Sheppard, Lauren Sheppard, Katie Sheppard, Ross Sheppard and Justin Sheppard; cousins: Peggy Box, Markie Smith, Julie Fields, Frances Adams and Kristina Lawlor. Billy is also survived by two stepchildren, Jeff Moore and Melanie Clark and four step grandchildren – Dustin Clark, Breanna and Nick Moore and Hailey Parrish and three step great grandchildren – Isabelle Clark, Andrew Moore and Carolina Rae Perry.
