William S Gunn, Jr.

Mr. William S. Gunn Jr., age 74, of North Indian Trail Road, Deepstep, died Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at his residence.  A family gathering celebrating his life will be held at a later date.

Sonny was born in Washington Georgia and reared in both Taliaferro and Hancock Counties, the son of the late William Simmie Gunn Sr. and the late Margarite Ivey Gunn.  He graduated from Sparta High School and enlisted in the US Navy where he served as a machinist on aircraft carriers during the Viet Nam conflict.  Sonny began his working career with McGaw Pharmaceuticals in Baldwin County prior to working as an electrician in the Kaolin Industry beginning with Anglo American Clays and retiring at Kamin with Mel Daniel Electrical Contractors. Sonny was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Deepstep and he loved to fish and hunt.  In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by siblings, Betsy Cook and Roy Gunn and his daughter, Tonya Barefoot.

Survivors are his wife, Joyce Mauldin Gunn; children, Deniece G. Hobbs (Greg) of Milledgeville, Thomas Barefoot (Angela) of Macon, Kevin Gunn of Warthen, and Harley G. Tyree (Chris) of Sandersville; grandchildren, Callie Register, Whitney Columbus, Ashley Hobbs, Jamie Leigh Barefoot, Katelyn Gunn, Allie Jane Tyree, Levi Tyree, Samantha McBride, Shannon Smith, Hannah Hancock and J.R. Hancock; four great grandchildren; and siblings, Arthur Gunn, Faye Brewer, Robert Gunn, Ralph Gunn, Al Gunn, Nancy McConnell, Teresa Morgan and Daniel Gunn.
