Major (retired) William Loring Hall, age 95 of Sandersville, died on Monday, July 9, 2018, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 11 at Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville with military honors accorded. Reverend Stan Littleton will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be John Trimble, Mark West, Bob West, Ryan Hall, Shawn Stacey and Stacer Helton.
Mr. Hall was a native of Washington County, the son of the late Cecil Felder Hall and the late Faye Hunter Hall. He was a graduate of Sandersville High School and he attended Georgia Military College and the University of Georgia. He joined the United States Navy as an aviation cadet and graduated from Naval Air Station at Pensacola Florida with gold wings and a 2nd Lieutenant Commission in the Marine Corps as a Dive Bomber Pilot in April of 1944.
In the Solomon Islands he served with Major C. Finley Irwin, Jr of Sandersville and moved to the Philippines supporting army units in recapturing Manila and saving the American POW's at Saint Thomas.
When the Korean conflict started he set sail with the first Marines sent to Korea providing close air support. He flew over 100 missions and received numerous Air Medals and Battle Stars. He retired from the Marine Corp in 1964 and became a real estate broker in Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Archer Hall of Sandersville; children, Dennis Hall and his wife Linda of Duluth, Vivanne Stacey and her husband Chris of Columbia MO, and Kevin Hall of Brooklyn NY; step children, Stewart Adams and his wife Gloria of Chula and Betti Adams Wise of Sandersville; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The family suggest that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Sandersville United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 611 Sandersville, Ga. 31082.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 312 Miamola Avenue in Sandersville from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday.
