Mr. W.D. McCoy, age 74, of Calvary Church Road in Johnson County, passed away Monday, August 18, 2025. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, August 22nd at 2:00 p.m., at Ivey Baptist Church 3193 New Buckeye Road, Wrightsville, with burial in the church cemetery. Reverends Andy Carter, Phil Wilson and Jimmy Allen will officiate. Glenn Archer, Timbo McAfee, Stacy Everett, Stacy Waller, Richie Watson and Ricky Powell will serve as pallbearers. W.D.'s family will greet friends on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
William Daniel McCoy was a native and lifelong resident of the Buckeye Community in Johnson County, the son of the late Inmon C. McCoy and the late Effie Miller McCoy. He graduated from Wrightsville High School, where he excelled in football and worked at the local gas station. W.D.'s working career began at the Woolen Mill in Dublin, prior to working at Washington County Machine Shop, where he crafted his trade of being a Machinist and Millwright. He later transitioned his talent to Thiele Kaolin Company, from which he would retire. In retirement, W.D. returned to his profession, again working at Thiele through Mel Daniel Industrial Contractors. He found great joy being on his family farm, driving his tractor and growing vegetables and sunflowers. W.D. was a faithful and active member of Ivey Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Nothing brought W.D. more joy than spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he is also predeceased by his brother, Horace McCoy.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Vickie Scarboro McCoy; children, Nerina M. Wood and her husband Jay of Dublin, and Aaron D. McCoy and his wife Sara of Boones Mill, VA.; grandchildren, Maci Wood, Ryland McCoy, Karter Wood, Blythe McCoy and his wife Emily, Lane Wood, Owen Wood, Evan Patterson, Andi Patterson, Talon McCoy, and Bella Arrington; and siblings, Shirley Ford of Lexington, SC., Calvin McCoy and his wife Fatina of Stafford, VA., and Cynthia Connelly and her husband David of Lexington SC.
