Mr. William Delbert Metz, age 69, of Oconee, died on Sunday, February 18, 2018, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 24 in May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville. Reverend Brian Massey and Reverend Jacky Downs will officiate. Burial with military honors will be at Bay Springs Cemetery near Oconee. Pallbearers will be Brandon Metz, Matt Metz, Hayden Steverson, Brennden Parker, Caleb Metz, Anthony Metz, Larry Cooper, Billy Bob Metz, Heath Pittman, and Lyle Pittman.
Mr. Metz was a native of Tunnelton, West Virginia, the son of the late Delbert Metz and the late Maxine Sigley Metz. He was preceded in death by his siblings, David Metz, Charles Metz and Delmus Metz. Mr. Metz was a lab technician for Imerys and a carpenter. He was a retired United States Marine and veteran of the Viet Nam Conflict. Mr. Metz was a non-denominational minister.
Survivors are his wife, Martha Landrum Metz of Oconee; children, Tonya M. Steverson and her husband Hank of Dublin, Chad Metz of Dublin, Charles Metz and his wife Jennifer, Cheryl Metz and her fiancé Robert Kirk, Rhonda Wolff and her husband Les and Melissa Frey and her husband Matt all of West Virginia; grandchildren, Kinsley Steverson, Hayden Steverson, Paisley Metz, Caleb Metz, Lily Metz, Sam Metz, Eli Metz, Brennden Parker, Alexis Parker, Makenzie Parker, Keenan Parker, Cory Metz, Jamie Nicholson, Cody Nicholson, London Wolff, Alex Wolff, Katelyn Frey, Owen Frey, Oliver Frey and Nathanael Frey; sisters, Gardenia Wilcox and her husband Charles of Arkansas, and Kay Mick and her husband Al of West Virginia; brothers, George Metz of Milledgeville, Joe Metz and his wife Norma of Grafton, WV, Henry Metz and his wife Lucy of Reedsville, WV, and Dallas Metz and his wife Kathy of Akron, Ohio; beloved pets, Sheba, Prissy, and Tiger.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Friday.
