Mr. William Wesley “Pop” Gilmore, age 88, of Sandersville, died Thursday, September 16, 2010. Graveside funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:00pm at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Dale Andrews will officiate.
Mr. Gilmore was born in Hancock County the son of the late Robert Wiley Gilmore and the late Anna Reid Walker Gilmore. Pop was widely known during the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s as the drummer for the Dixie Katz Band. He was a retired auto mechanic formerly working for Riner Radiator and Battery, Smith-Sheppard, Irwin Hardware and Napa Auto Parts, working part-time into his early 80’s. He enjoyed meeting with his lunch buddies at Country Buffet. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Pop was an avid UGA, WACO, Brentwood fan of all sports and earned a masters degree in “Spectator Sports”. His wife Dorothy Hodges Gilmore and son-in-law John Frederick predecease him.
Survivors are; his daughters Pam G. Frederick, Donna G. Turner (Paul) and Lisa G. Taylor (Michael) all of Sandersville, grandchildren, Katheryn F. Durden (Brandon), Ashely Turner, Anna T. Brookins,
and J.T. Frederick, great grandchildren, Kelby Turner, Gracee Brookins, and Laynee Brookins, and sisters Betty G. Godowns of Wrens, Martha G. Eskew and Lillie G. Tanner both of Sandersville.
The family will be at the Turner residence, 601 Linton Road, Sandersville and will receive friends Saturday from 5 to 7pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home.
The family suggests donations be made to the Pleasant Grove Cemetery Fund, c/o Ted Thompson, 7744 Linton Road, Sandersville, Georgia 31082 OR to the Donor’s favorite charity.
