Mr. William Reese “Billy” Anderson, age 77, of Davisboro, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017. A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Ron Dixon, Reverend Lamar Brantley and his son, Pastor Charles Davis Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service in the social hall of the church.
Mr. Anderson was born on July 1, 1940, the son of the late Mary Emma Brantley Anderson and the late Toby Anderson. He graduated from Sandersville High School in 1958 where he was known for his athletic abilities in football, track and basketball. He then served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965 on the destroyer USS Glennon and was in the Caribbean during the Cuban Missile Crisis. For most of his life he was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church near Davisboro, where he served as a certified lay leader. He was instrumental in forming the Methodist Men’s Club and served as its president for many years. Later, he joined Davisboro Baptist Church and became a licensed minister of the gospel. Billy was a member of the church choir and diligently worked in the church’s jail ministry. His final 14 months were spent at Blue Ridge Rehab and Villa in Martinsville, Virginia.
He is predeceased by his parents, Mary Emma B. Davis and Jarrel R. Davis of Davisboro. Survivors include, his sister, Barbara Davis Stovall of Bassett, Virginia; son, Charles Davis Anderson and his wife Crystal; grandchildren, Jeremiah, Rachel, Levi, Hannah and Isabella all of Big Corn Island, Nicaragua and a number of loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
