William Arlis Turner

January 3, 1949 — June 30, 2016

Mr. William Arlis Turner, age 67, of Sandersville, died Thursday, June 30, 2016. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene in Sandersville with burial in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery south of Tennille. Reverends Gary Mimbs and Danny Thomas will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mark Kent, Greg Lord, Chris Turner, John Turner, John Robert Turner, Stuart Turner, Jason Turner, Carl Turner, and James Brown. The Sandersville Railroad will sit as an honorary group.

Mr. Turner was born in Johnson County the son of the late John Lewis Turner and the late Willie Dorothy Odom Turner. Arlis was a retired engineer with the Sandersville Railroad after 36 years of service. He was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene where he was president of the Church Brotherhood and served the church in other leadership roles. Arlis was an active volunteer at Brentwood School often seen grilling the famous “Arlis Burgers” at football games. He was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran serving his country during the Vietnam Conflict. He is predeceased by his siblings, Johnny L. Turner, Carlos “Smokey” Turner, David E. Turner and Ricky C. Turner.

Survivors are: his wife, Debbie G. Turner of Sandersville, sons, Justin Turner and his wife Amanda of Forsyth and Brent Turner of Warner Robins, grandsons, Peyton Turner and Barrett Turner and his sisters, Florene T. Brown, Rachel T. Lord and her husband Ronnie and Regina T. Walton all of Sandersville.

The family will be at the Turner residence on Gwendolyn Street in Sandersville and they will receive friends Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
